Akhiyat Driver Cars accompanies water sports enthusiasts in Morocco throughout the year. With over 3000 kilometers of coastline, Morocco is an ideal place for water lovers. From the waves of the Atlantic Ocean to the blue expanses of the Mediterranean Sea, the vast beaches are perfectly maintained and equipped with first-class infrastructure. Discover in this article the most practiced water sports in Morocco.

Surfing, one of the most popular water sports in Morocco

Die-hard surfers head to Taghazout, which is a short drive from Agadir, where international flights arrive regularly. With a few sites around the bay, the waves are high and the sea rough. Given its location on the bay, Taghazout enjoys comfortable temperatures, averaging +25°C year round, which is perfect for entering the cold waters of the Atlantic. The seaside town is rather relaxed, with a few surf schools available and highly recommended, given their local knowledge of dangerous water conditions.

Jet-ski

The Lalla Takerkoust lake was built with the intention of providing water to the nearby city of Marrakech (about 45 minutes away) in the early 20th century. Today, restaurants dot the lake, offering casual lunch options as well as a watering hole for city dwellers seeking respite during the summer months. And for those who want a little more activity, various registered and unregistered businesses rent jet skis for fun on the water. Pedal boats are also available for those who want something less adventurous.

Standup paddle boarding (SUP)

A gentle paddle board ride on Oualidia‘s calm waters or a private boat tour around the lagoon is the perfect way to spend an hour or two. Admire the view, watch for flocks of flamingos, or ride off into the sunset to admire the sky and the colors. Further out, fishermen are fishing for oysters, a local specialty. These are served in the modest restaurants that dot the sandy beach. Surfing is also practiced in this city on the Atlantic coast.

Windsurfing

Known as the African city of wind, Essaouira is the preferred destination for windsurfing in Morocco. During the winter months, windsurfers dot the waterfront. You’ll see them jumping and turning across the clear blue sky when the wind picks up. Windsurfing schools and stores offer lessons and equipment rentals. They also offer transportation to more remote areas where conditions may be more ideal on a given day.

Kitesurfing, one of the most practiced water sports in Morocco

Speaking about kitesurfing in Morocco, Dakhla is the place to be. This water activity is accessible to people of all levels, including amateurs and seasoned professionals. From the shallow, waveless lagoon to the Atlantic waves, there are many spots to choose from.

For those who have been here before, you can attest to the fact that Dakhla has incredible hotel accommodation. More importantly, it offers ideal conditions for kitesurfing, with windy days all year round. If you haven’t heard of this beautiful kitesurfing destination yet, you definitely don’t know what you’re missing.
